When Morven Mulgrew invited us to come down and try out Cast Iron Kitchen’s steak sandwiches at London Fields Market in East London, we couldn’t resist the temptation. It’s tradition for me to start my Saturday with a swim in the wonderful Lido, after which I’ve worked up quite an appetite! The motivation of steak sarnies post swim was enough to make me bust out a few extra lengths in the pool.
Nestled just inside the entrance to London Fields Market we found Morven’s gorgeous cab – kitted out inside with red tartan blankets, we couldn’t believe she could fit the entire stall set up into the back. Maybe she’ll give us a ride in it one day, looked so fun to cruise around London in, albeit at a max speed of 20mph!
After a lovely chat about starting businesses and our shared passion of steak, it was time to get down to business.
Morven whacked two juicy steaks on the grill for us and we watched as the meat from Scotland sizzled away getting our taste buds going. They were prepared in ciabatta rolls with homemade mayonnaise, a delicious fragrant brown sauce, sesame seeds and a light salad.
The combination worked an absolute treat.
The steak was cooked perfectly – medium rare – the sauce and crunchiness from the salad created a winning combination for just £6.50
Morven’s hospitality and passion left as great a taste in our mouths as the steak did.
She also serves black pudding from Stornoway with apple sauce.
The atmosphere in the market is great fun – there’s a VW Campervan serving milkshakes and beer with picnic benches for you to eat and drink on.
London Fields Market is only open on Saturday but check out http://www.castironkitchen.co.uk/ to find her other locations.
We love to support local, young businesses. Thank you Cast Iron.
